I have a perfectly serviceable F300 series HP colour inkjet / scanner that worked like a charm under 10.5 now it's rendered useless under 10.6 I'm really unhappy about this sad, sorry state of affairs. I wouldn't mind but the printer.isn't that old!. HP support has it listed as 10.6 compatible.

What happened? Do I have to chuck my printer in the bin and go buy one with 10.6 support or will HP be offering something in the way of workable drivers in the near future. Perhaps HP wouldn't mind giving me some sort of cash incentive to purchase a printer that works with 10.6!

We have a ColorPass z4000e server running a CLC-1110. We are also using Ip printing and NOT Appletalk (obviously). Snow Leopard broke the ability to use the default Canon PPD (ColorPASS-Z400e), resulting in the, now infamous, 'printer software was installed incorrectly' error. Using the 'lpstat' command: $ lpstat -t Yielded this result: Filter '/usr/libexec/cups/filter/fierycupsfilter' for printer 'ColorPass' not owned by root Ahhhh. A permissions error, of course (it was owned by the IT admin account).

So.: root# chown -R root:wheel /usr/libexec/cups/filter/ Problem solved. All printer preferences come up, and prints fine.

Hello, I am having the same printing problems/error with my Canon CLC 1180 with ColorPASS Z650 print server. I am not very familiar with Terminal and need more help. I am able to see the results by entering this the 'lpstat -t' command at the prompt but I have not been successful with the following command:: root# chown -R root:wheel /usr/libexec/cups/filter/ Here is my exact prompt line: chris-ratchfords-mac-pro: MacPro$ What do I need to type at this prompt line to 'change the owner permissions of the fierycupsfilter filter located in a core folder'???

    Mac

I am never prompted for my password. I get 'Operation not permitted.' What am I doing wrong????

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!!!!! Thanks, Chris. Hello Pahu, Thanks again for the help but this still is not working. I copied/pasted exactly what you provided in your last post.

Here is what resulted when entering in Terminal and pressing Enter: chown: /usr/libexec/cups/filter//fierycupsfilter: Operation not permitted I am using the latest driver for my Z650 ColorPASS (from 10/5/05). The IP address of my CLC 1180/ColorPass has not changed.

I have tried entering the word 'print' in my print queue field. I am using the 'Line Printer Daemon - LPD' protocol. I can print using the Generic PostScriptPrinter driver but this is not specific to my Z650. I can tell the copier to choose the bypass tray but the option for 'Heavy Paper' is not available with this generic driver.

This is important to my workflow because I have to use heavy paper. Without the 'Heavy Paper' option, my paper goes through the copier too quickly. As a result, the toner doesn't fuse properly and the images suffer greatly. I am happy to email screenshots of Terminal or my 'Add Printer' options to you if that will help. Please feel free to email me directly if you would like.

I have tried to contact Canon directly but they only publish a consumer products phone number. I have spoken with several Canon reps at this consumer number and they are not willing to help.

They say that I have to contact whoever services my copier. I have done that also but they were not able to help either. Thanks, Chris. Hi Chris, Until we can change the permissions on the 'fierycupsfilter' plugin we won't be able to stop the error that will occur when printing.

Try opening Terminal again but this time add the word sudo in front of the text. For example: MacPro$ sudo chown -R root:wheel /usr/libexec/cups/filter/ when you hit Enter you should now be prompted for your password. Type this in and press Enter again.

If this works you should get no message, just the screen will return to MacPro$. Exit out of Terminal and try printing now. Note that once you are printing, some applications may show a line through the Fiery Job Notes menu. This will happen with 64bit applications, such as TextEdit and Preview. This indicates that you are using a 64bit application with a 32bit driver. The solution for now is to set the application to open using 32bit mode, which you can set by doing a Get Info on the application icon.

Hi Pahu, Thank you for your help!!! That worked perfectly!

I am now printing again with the Z650 Driver (from 2005) and I am able to choose the Heavy Paper option. At first, it didn't work - I sent two jobs through and they spooled but they never printed. Then I deleted the printer again, re-added it and typed 'print' in the Queue field and that seemed to do the trick.

I did not have to go back into Terminal to repeat the 'sudo chown.' Thanks again for your help! I'll put this machine to the test in the next couple of days but it appears that you have solved my Snow Leopard printing problem! Apple Footer.
